4 Reminders Before Early Giving

Early Giving for Give to the Max Day starts on November 1! As we gear up for Minnesota’s biggest giving holiday, here are a few last-minute reminders to keep in mind as you prepare to launch your campaign.

1. Donors Want to Give

Many organizations worry about “donor fatigue,” or the idea that think that asking too often will cause donors to disengage. But here’s some good news: our GTMD surveys show that donor fatigue is largely a myth.

As long as you’re following the donor cycle and thanking people for their support, you can trust that donors are expecting to hear from you and are excited to participate in your campaign.

2. Ask Directly and Clearly

Let donors know exactly how they can help. Make sure there’s a question mark somewhere in your appeal! For example, instead of saying: “We hope you consider making a donation,” try: “Every gift helps us reach our goal. Will you donate today?”

3. Don’t Be Afraid to Repeat Yourself

Sometimes it takes multiple asks from different channels for people to move from considering a donation to actually making it – multiple asks give people those opportunities. This doesn’t mean you have to reinvent the wheel with each post – try repackaging content from one platform for another (like taking a section of your email and using it as a Facebook post).

4. Take Care of Yourself and Your Team

As nonprofit leaders, we’re usually taking care of others. It’s just as important to take care of ourselves and our colleagues, too! Make a plan for how you’ll recharge throughout your campaign and who you can ask for help. Fundraising is a team activity!
