Rest, Reconnect, and Reignite: Resolutions for Fundraisers in 2025

Fundraiser Resolutions (2)At the start of January, prioritizing your growth, development, and rest by cracking open a new planner, starting a new gym membership, or making a plan for your next trip are familiar scenes. But in our professional lives, particularly for fundraisers, those same actions can feel out of reach or even unnecessary compared to the demands of meeting your mission.

Yet, fundraisers need to take time for reflection and rest. When they don’t, the possibility of experiencing burnout increases and feeds into the burnout epidemic facing our sector: 95% of nonprofit leaders in 2024 cited burnout as a primary concern for staff and leadership of nonprofit organizations, with BIPOC-, LGBTQ+-, and women-identifying leaders experiencing burnout as a higher rater than their counterparts.

So, why not take a second to think about what you want out of this new year? And if you’re having trouble getting started, here are a few suggestions from our team:

  1. Rest – if you have PTO available, make space in your calendar for time to rest. Maybe there’s a Friday after a meeting- and deadline-heavy week that you can take off, so why not use that day to relax and recharge? Then, you can continue doing your work with the energy and expertise it requires.
  2. Reconnect – Think about why you do your work, what motivates you, and what connects you to the mission you’re meeting. Write those thoughts down to refer back to throughout the year if work stressors have you feeling discouraged.
  3. Reignite – You might be tired from a year-end fundraising push or feeling out of ideas for your next campaign, so consider reigniting your passion for fundraising by learning (or honing) a new skill! Check out GiveMN’s resource page for guides on storytelling, stewardship, and more. Or, join the GiveMN team for our 2025 Learning Opportunities, which help you connect with fundraising and build community.

Whether it’s through journaling about your work, taking time off to connect with family and friends, and prioritizing your learning in the new year, the GiveMN team is always here for you and cheering you on as you do the important work of fundraising
